GENERAL PROJECT SUMMARY
The primary focus of this position is the ability to work in remote forest locations with often changing jobsites to collect detailed and accurate forestry data in a systematic and reproducible manner.
The project assignment is to perform timber surveys, collecting data such as tree diameter, height, site quality, age and any defects. Data will be used to calculate number and volume of trees per acre and the volume of timber. The project objective is to gather data about numerical forest inventories about the state and dynamics of specific tracts of forest.
For safety purposes all work will be performed in teams of no less than two people, the Forestry Survey Crew Coordinator will provide oversight to the Forestry Survey Crew Technician and will accurately record forest conditions and provide quality assurance and quality control of all records. This person is responsible for accurate records to their supervisor. The Forestry Survey Crew Coordinator will be primarily collecting data and the Forestry Survey Field Technician will perform measurements and assist with recording data.
Candidates must be able to work in remote field locations to efficiently collect accurate data.
Some training/orientation will be provided but candidate is expected to be proficient in field data collection procedures and field operations in remote locations.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.
A minimum of one (1) year field data collection (emphasis on Forestry a plus)
Perform field data collection and lead team as needed.
Prior experience in remote logistics management to perform job, creating checklists of filed gear required, and supervising packing of field environment.
The candidate must be self-motivated, results-oriented, organized and efficient, with a strong work ethic, and team player
Candidate must possess a valid Driver s License; must be able to meet company insurability requirements.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE (NOTE: level determined based on candidate experience/background)
Bachelor of Science degree in any Natural Sciences or engineering
Minimum of one (1) year successful experience in providing professional field services and data collection.
Supervisory skills working in remote locations.
Current wilderness First-Aid certification a plus.
Training:
All personnel will have successfully completed a bear/human interaction course as taught or approved by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
All personnel will have successfully completed a firearms/12 gauge shotgun course that instructs the hazer in weapon safety, manipulation, live firing of slugs, cracker rounds and bean bag rounds.

Ability to carry a heavy back-pack for the duration of a full work day.
Travel to remote forest locations.
Prolonged sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Frequent walking on uneven forestry slopes.
Working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling.
Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
Normal vision range.
Normal sensory ability to smell.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
