This position is located at a National Weather Service Office in the Alaskan Region.
As a Meteorological Technician (MOBEU), you will:
Participate in the complete data acquisition and public service programs at the station. The programs can consist of: upper air, augmentation, editing and backup of the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS), daily climatological measurements, marine and/or hydrologic observations where applicable, and preparing and disseminating Short Term Forecasts.
Prepare and conduct weather briefings to aviation, marine and public users via the telephone, radio or in person.
Collect and disseminate marine weather observations from vessels in Alaskan waters.

Shift work is required. Most Alaska region WSOs are in remote or isolated locations and have limited transportation access and amenities. The incumbent serves as relief for meteorological technician or official-in-charge (OIC) at Alaska stations. Therefore, will spend approximately 90 percent of time in travel status. When serving as the acting official-in-charge (AOIC), the incumbent plans and assigns work, supervises attendance and leave, directs and manages all station programs and facilities. The incumbent falls under the direct supervision of the Chief, Data Acquisition Branch at Alaska Region Headquarters.
