Description and Desired Qualifications
The position is located in Anchorage, AK and requires the employee to commute to the Anchorage Fabrication Shop on a daily basis.
Position
Summary:
Performs welding of pipe, flanges and various fittings for fabrication or
repair
of machine parts, plant equipment and structures according to layout, blueprints or work orders using various welding processes
Essential Job Functions:
Constructs, maintains and modifies piping systems and process equipment related to petrochemical or other industry by welding of pipe, flanges and various fittings using applicable welding techniques and processes required to produces welds that meet applicable codes and client requirements
Measures pipe routing and draft pipe configuration
Perform repair, prep, grinding and re-weld procedures on pipe to meet proper welding codes
Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various cleanup and housekeeping activitiesKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the AWS, ANSI and ASME codes
Knowledge of operation of welding equipment, beveling machines, electrodes, fluxes, shielding gasses and welding processes
Knowledge of the various size and grades of welding electrodes, the proper use of electrodes and welding processes, the appearance of a proper fit-up and the appearance of properly cleaned and prepared surface
Ability to properly use and care for the tools and equipment and welding electrodes commonly used on an industrial project
Ability to read, understand engineering prints

Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear
Lift 40 lbs from floor to knuckles x 2 with a 12 second interval
Lift 40 lbs from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval
Lift 40 lbs from floor to shoulders x 2 with a 12 second interval
Carry: Carry 40 lbs with two hands for 50 feet on level surface x 2 (allow a 60 second rest break between carry tests)
Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 15 rungs x 2 for a total of 30 rungs, self-paced but continuous
Stairs: Climb up and down 15 steps x 5 for a total of 75 steps; self-paced (allow a 60 second rest break after every set of climbing up and down 30 steps)
Repetitive Kneel Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 5 each knee
Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 5, self-paced, but continuous
Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5
Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively

Demonstrated ability to perform the physical requirements (listed above) of this position via the successful completion of a Fitness for Duty Evaluation;
Negative results in a drug test (a hair sample may be required)
Attainment of a North Slope Training Certification (NSTC) via completion of modules
CH2M HILL will schedule and cover program costs for Fitness for Duty Evaluations, drug tests, and NSTC training for job candidates. Candidates will not be compensated for their personal time spent completing these programs or for costs of previously attending the NSTC training, drug test or FFD evaluation.
Basic Qualifications
Experience and/or training in pipe welding required
Required to pass pipe weld tests upon offer; tests include Vertical, Overhead and Pipe Tests, extra, extra strong heavy wall
Preferred Qualifications
Petrochemical, oilfield or arctic experiencepreferred
Valid driver's license including ability to be insured by CH2M Hill's auto insurerpreferred
