DutiesCost of Living Allowance:
In addition to the yearly salary, this position is entitled to a 2.01 percent cost-of-living allowance (COLA).This allowance is subject to annual review, adjustment, and rate decrease.This telework-eligible position will report to the Alaska Regional office in Anchorage, Alaska. The duty station can be negotiable, but must be based within Alaska Region.
As a Fish and Wildlife Administrator your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Leads and provides coordination of conservation strategies for collaborative natural resource management and conservation in Alaska and with international partners.Provides leadership for collaborative development and refinement of conservation plans that integrate biological goals and objectives established for different species groups; different management practices, and/or different ecological functions and processes.Works collaboratively to support the integration of cooperative-based outputs from biological planning and conservation design such as spatially explicit decision support tools into existing projects and programs among organizations, agencies, and partnerships in Alaska and partner countries.Works collaboratively to support the integration of cooperative-based outputs from biological planning and conservation design such as spatially explicit decision support tools into existing projects and programs among organizations, agencies, and partnerships in the assigned issue or area.Provides leadership in creating, guiding, facilitating, and nurturing interdependent networks among State and Tribal fish and wildlife and conservation agencies, sister bureaus in the Department of Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service programs, and other agencies, organizations, and partnerships sufficient to support the iterative, interagency application of collaborative landscape conservation and adaptive resource management.Ensures activities are coordinated across geographic areas, other boundaries and programs; collaborates with partners and other stakeholders such as other Federal and state fish and wildlife agencies; represents the interests of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and partners in various national and international forums on both policy and technical issues associated with the implementation of ecosystem conservation initiatives and other national efforts associated with specific fish, wildlife and habitat conservation issues.Serves as a first level supervisor, exercising the full range of supervisory and managerial duties for a small staff of scientists, planners, and other professionals assigned to or working for the assigned issue or area.Requirements Conditions of EmploymentMust be a U.S. Citizen or National.Resume (See Required Documents). This vacancy will utilize a multiple step assessment process to determine the qualifications of applicants. The first step will consist of applicants completing an occupational questionnaire related to the major duties and competencies of the position. The second step will consist of applicant resumes being reviewed by a Subject Matter Expert (SME) panel for related position competencies against a pre-determined rating schedule. Degree:
Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; ORCombination of education and
Experience:
Courses equivalent to a major, or at least 30 semester hours in courses, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education; OR
Experience:
Four years of experience that demonstrated that the applicant acquired knowledge and understanding of one or more of the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, or related disciplines equivalent to that which would have been acquired through completion of a 4-year course of study as described in A above.Minimum Qualification GS-14
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-13 in the Federal service. Examples of experience may include:
1) Coordinating and leading a team focused on the management/conservation of natural resources at multiple spatial and temporal scales; 2) collaborating with diverse individuals and groups on behalf of a natural resource management management/conservation organization; 3) identifying multiple approaches and implementing preferred methods for solving ecologically and socially complex issues related to natural resource management/conservation; and 4) identifying novel methods for gathering and sharing information and knowledge, reviewing and analyzing information, and translating into management/conservation actions; and 5) experience delegating work, establishing work schedules and priorities, and establishing performance standards and evaluating performance.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
