Airway Transportation Systems Specialist Department of Transportation ATO, Technical Operations,Western Service Area, Anchorage District Location Few vacancies in the following location:

Telework eligible No Duties Summary Due to the Pandemic, and individual states with different phases of reopening, the selectees report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time as employees are allowed to report to the workplace.
The person selected may telework up to the maximum extent possible, up to and including full time, until it is safe to relocate.
Responsibilities Airway Transportation Systems Specialist performs multiple, varying and complex assignments associated with the NAS.
Receives general work assignments from a supervisor.
Uses own judgment, experience, and knowledge to solve problems and complete assignments.
Applies broad experience and advanced technical knowledge of assigned discipline and/or specialty.
Utilizes and interprets FAA orders, technical manuals, manufacturer's instructions, procedures and other publications as required to complete multiple and complex work assignments.
Applies judgment and discretion to select the most appropriate method to complete the work assignment with a high degree of independence, keeping supervisor advised of significant problem areas, which may impact ATC operations.
Supervisor furnishes general instructions on the scope of work, time limitations, and priorities.
Possesses comprehensive knowledge of the NAS as an integrated system of the relationship of the parts to the whole and of the capabilities within the NAS to deal with unusual problems or unanticipated air traffic safety issues.
Understands how assigned systems, components, and disciplines are integrated with other systems, components, and disciplines.
Initiates action to install, repair, or restore systems and services, takes into account the availability of back-up systems, possible reconfigurations to minimize service interruptions, and the relative criticality of particular functions to the safe and efficient operation of the NAS.
Collaborates with system users, planners, engineers, and contractor personnel in the installation and testing of new or modified systems and in identifying needed improvements or enhancements.
Develops and recommends methods of enhancing efficiency of systems through modification and application of existing or emerging technology.
The ATSS is considered a key technical point of contact for assigned systems, programs, and projects.
Contacts are made to provide technical information on multiple systems, instruct other employees, share information across organizations, provide ATC systems data, provide status briefings on system reliability, coordinate, and oversee the activities of contractors.
In addition, Defense (DoD), airport management.
contractors, and utility companies to resolve complex technical or engineering issues.
The ATSS possesses a broad knowledge of the FAA orders, Technical Instruction manuals, policies and procedures pertaining to the maintaining FAA systems safely in a variety of work environments, including Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA), Facility and Systems Security, National Electrical Code (NEC) and Human Resources Directives.
Must use proper personal protective equipment and use safety procedures while accomplishing work assignments.
Contributes to the organizational goals as a senior specialist, team member, or lead specialist for specific projects or work assignments.
Assigned tasks are reviewed in terms of compliance with FAA policies and technical requirements within the ATSS's areas of expertise.
ATSSs must be able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others.
Due to the nature of the job, usable vision (including color vision and near vision), hearing, and speech may be required.
ATSSs may be required to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; climb stairs/ladders up to 100 feet; be able to bend or stoop for extended periods; work in diverse environmental conditions (outside/extreme weather); work rotating shifts, weekends and/or holidays; possess a valid driver's license, and possibly travel away from home up to 75% of the time.
ATSSs work out of offices located at or near airports and on service equipment located on airports, in Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCT), Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCCs), and other remote facilities.
Travel Required 75% or less - The job may require up to 75% travel.

US Citizenship is required.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Supervisor's Endorsement is required.
Not required if ingrade/downgrade.

Successful completion of a moderate risk (POS SEN 5) security upgrade/refresh may be required.

Qualifications Specialized
Experience:
Applicants must provide a resume which demonstrates and/or show that you possess the specialized work experience in your work history.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
The specialized experience should demonstrate an extensive knowledge of and experience in technology system interrelationships, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation and electronics systems.
There is no timeframe requirement at the Level II/FV-G to compete.
Candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility that is appropriate to the position.
Generally, experience at the next lower level (Pay Band G/Level II or equivalent), meets the minimum qualifications for this position as long as the experience supports the DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES identified below.
