As a Port Engineer you will play a major role in ensuring that Cook Inlet's fleet of tugs and barges is fully equipped to operate successfully and safely day in and day out.
The Port Engineer is a respected position, offering guidance and instruction to the crew in all matters relating to vessel operations, safety, and compliance.
Crucial Functions:
Vessel Maintenance Develops and reviews planned maintenance programs for vessels, including leading the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) program, as applicable.
Knowledgeable of both conventional and ASD propulsion systems.
Evaluate and initiate corrective action on emergency/casualty repairs for vessels.
Ability to analyze problems via communication while a vessel is at sea or in a remote location.
Supervises all engineering work-in-progress for planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs for vessels.
Collaborate with appropriate operations personnel, recommending action to be taken such as shutting down a vessel, continuing or discontinuing its operation.
Determines methods, lengths, and costs of vital vessel repairs.
Trains engineers with regard to vessel systems, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
Recommend corrective action to eliminate additional expenses to the maintenance and repair budget.
Provides help for inspection of vessels by regulatory groups.
Accompanies USCG and ABS surveyors for mid-period inspections, load line annual surveys, special, intermediate surveys, and other regulatory inspections as necessary.
Responsible for the remedy and repair of all deficiencies, operational and administrative.
Safety Conducts frequent safety meetings, generally one-on-one, with vessel engineers.
Performs safety checks on all vessels, initiates repairs.
Supervises safety policies, procedures, and precautions for receiving and transferring fuel on CITB vessels.
Promotes safe work practices with all company employees and vendors working on company vessels.
Miscellaneous Maintains personal proficiency in related engineering fields through formal training and reviews related technical publications on an ongoing basis.
Miscellaneous duties, as the need arises, such as annual maintenance/repair and capital budget preparation for vessels.
Assists other Saltchuk Marine companies with vessel repairs, dry dockings, etc.
as required.
Evaluate and survey damages for insurance claims.
Provides allegations as to cause and effect of damage.
Consults with Risk Manager on matters relating to vessel casualties and estimated repair costs.
Supervises emergency repairs to vessels whenever they are operating.
Arranges for shipyard services, materials, and inspections by regulatory groups, federal, state, and local.
Oversee crew's training to perform required tasks to maintain regulatory compliance including, but not limited to:
USCG, EPA, ISM, ABS, OSHA.
ADEC and OSPR as applicable.
Performs special duties and other projects as assigned.
Adheres to all company policies.
Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
Supervisory and Leadership of Direct Staff Responsible for all matters of employment including recruiting, training, development, promotion, corrective action, and termination.

Qualifications:
Valid USCG Merchant Mariner Credential required and PIC (preferred).
3-5 years as a tugboat engineer or as a shoreside manager is preferred.
Must possess a valid USCG engineer's license or Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) license.
Proficiency with SAP and CAD/CAM software and general knowledge of naval architecture and vessel drawings desired.
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
Valid state driver's license.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must be eligible to work in the United States.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
