Summary:
This position primarily provides support to the Risk Manager and cross-support to the Risk Services department.
Support to the Risk Manager includes, but not limited to review of contracts, insurance policies, certificate requests; assist with the renewal process of the Universitys insurance program and the department budget.
Support to the Risk Services department includes, but not limited to accounts payable; department budget; various risk related projects.
Duties:
1-40 Risk and Insurance Fiscal Management:
Develop and implement fiscal management for system-wide risk and insurance functions.
Manage all risk services fiscal functions, including but not limited to renewals, annual risk allocation and related transactions.
Create and maintain risk services budget using Banner and other appropriate tools; develops annual budget for all units within Risk Services to develop and track budget monitoring.
Fiscal operations include monitoring revenues and expenditures, reconciliations, projections, statistical support and budget transfers.
Maintain records, compile and prepare fiscal statements and/or reports for distribution to department staff, other departments, and outside agencies.
Analyze operations and design and recommend safeguards, controls and automated processes to ensure data entry accuracy and integrity.
Essential 2-40 Risk and Insurance Support:
Assist the Risk Manager with requests which may include, but not limited to review of contracts, waivers; review and request for certificate of insurance from broker; issue certificate of insurance and evidence of insurance in response to requests from outside entities; processing Notary Bond applications; request and obtain insurance renewal information from various sources, maintain records, compile and prepare insurance applications; Essential 3-20 General and Staff Support:
Provide cross-support to Risk Services:
risk, insurance, claims and emergency management (business continuity, FEMA public assistance and hazard grant mitigation work).
Primary assistance is to the Risk Manager, including but not limited to duties outlined under Risk and Insurance Support / Risk and Insurance Fiscal Management.
Gather statistical information for the annual actuarial review which provides the bases for establishing the reserves retained by the UA to qualify as self- insured.
Analyze incoming requests for information and special reports utilizing comprehensive knowledge of the Banner (TOAD) and RMIS claims database structure and relational database query operations, extract appropriate data and financial information to fulfill reporting and research project requests.
Staff Support - As needed, respond appropriately to inquiries on a variety of services provided by Risk Services, including calls from students, faculty, university staff, brokers and others.
Manage Risk Services office operations and expenditures.
Human Resources - Prepare and track requests for personnel actions, including preparing hiring paperwork and ensuring all office personnel actions are in compliance with university personnel rules.
Development of internal and external websites to provide resources (including transactions) to universities.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Technical skills must include advanced knowledge of automated accounting systems, relational database structures and electronic spreadsheet functions.
Basic understanding of insurance.
Basic website design/build/maintenance skills.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Attention to detail.
Preferred Experience & Education:
Five years of experience with emphasis on accounting and computing skills.
Required Experience & Education:
Course work or training in accounting and computer software programs.
Education and training to have gained the above knowledge, skills and abilities.
