$114,000 - $114,500, DOEJob SummaryThe Assistant Director of Intensive Behavior Supports is responsible for the co-development, implementation, and oversight of the Anchorage School District's intensive Tier 3 behavioral supports, specifically at Whaley School.
The assistant director assists in system's development and training district and school-based teams to adhere to the federal, state, and district guidance and represents the Mental Health and Student Supports Department in districtwide implementation of expectations when conducting functional behavior assessments, developing behavior intervention plans, and enhancing instructional practices.
The position has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS).
Job RequirementsThe following are required A master's degree in special education or a related area.
A credential in special education, school psychology, or a related field.
A current Alaska type B administrative certificate within two years of hire date.
Must verify enrollment in a program no later than 60 days after hire date.
A valid Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification.
A current Alaska Board Certified Behavior Analysis license.
A valid Alaska teaching certificate.
A minimum of five years of teaching or work experience in special education, including supervisory experience.
The following are preferred Knowledge of federal and state laws and ASD policies governing special education and Section 504.
Experience with staff supervision and coaching.
Evidence of exceptional communication, interpersonal skills, and conflict resolution skills.
Knowledge of and experience with data-driven decision making.
Knowledge of special education record keeping and report writing.
Strong organizational management skills (e.
g.
, organizing, planning, leading, and coordinating resources with the overall aim of achieving the objectives).
Knowledge of state and federal compliance issues and due process hearing procedures.
Essential Job Functions Provides leadership to implement Tier 3 Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) which meet the K-12 student needs and provide behavior analytic supports, effective education, and assessment of behavioral needs for students with disabilities.
Supervises classified behavior staff.
Debriefs with staff team members after an incident or pattern of incidents involving the use of physical restraint and problem-solve improvement to school-level practices.
Develops and implements professional development for school-based professionals on Tier 3 behavior support.
Remains current on evidence-based and promising practices regarding the implementation of social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health supports with students.
Assists in the supervision and evaluation of board-certified behavior analysts, behavior strategists, intervention coaches, and other staff as assigned.
Facilitates building level meetings, including data review meetings and IEP meetings.
Collaborates with district leadership around the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
Collaborates with staff on methods of instruction for skill acquisition and replacement skills.
Conducts functional behavior assessments.
Develops behavior intervention plans.
Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Physical /Mental DemandsThe physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing.
Specific visual abilities are also required.
The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs.
Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
