The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Program Development is looking for a long-term nonpermanent Transportation Planner 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! What you will be doing:
Under the direction of the Program Development Chief, this position works within the Planning & Program Development Division serving as a grants coordinator.
A goal for the division is to maximize federal grant awards to Alaska, and assist Alaskan communities with both federal and state funding opportunities.
This position will work within the department and with external partners to coordinate the department's response to federal funding opportunities at a programmatic level, and help Alaskan communities understand the department's state funding opportunities.
This position will also assist with preparing grant applications for the department and submitting grants through Grants.

In addition this position will help develop and manage competitive state-ran funding programs aimed at funding projects in Alaskan communities.
This position will work with a team of department staff and external partners who are focused on developing and enhancing the competitiveness of Alaska's federal grant applications, and assist Alaskan communities find appropriate state and federal funding opportunities.

Budget Administration:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis; including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
External Awareness:
Understands and keeps up-to-date on local, national, and international policies and trends that affect the organization and shape stakeholders' views; is aware of the organization's impact on the external environment.
Landscape Architecture:
Knowledge of the concepts, theories, and practices used in the planning, designing, construction, and adaptation of outdoor features, taking into consideration recreation planning, requirements, aesthetic value, and compatibility with other developments and resources.
Transportation:
Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including costs and limits.
Transportation Engineering:
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods applicable to planning, designing, and constructing of transportation systems including traffic analysis, signal analysis, highway capacity, pavement design, bridge construction, planning of transportation projects, environmental analysis of transportation facilities, and transportation network analysis.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Post-secondary education in urban, regional, transportation, or landscape planning; AND/OR Experience, which involves some combination of the design of research projects, setting standards for technical adequacy, and/or coordinating the planning contributions of lower level planners or other agencies, in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
