Technician II, Facility Maintenance

This Technician role is eligible for a $2,500 Hiring Bonus for new hires! This position is located in Anchorage, Alaska and is not eligible for remote/teleworking.
However, relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.
GCI's Facilities Maintenance Technician II performs preventative maintenance and repair of the Companys telecommunication facility infrastructure to maximize availability and provide the highest quality of service for our customers.
Essential Duties of the Position:

Dispatches to Rural Alaskan communities to perform preventive maintenance, quality control inspections, and repair of Company facility equipment.
Understands the unique travel, lodging, and customs of rural Alaskan communities.

Ensure completion of established facility-based maintenance routines designed to keep buildings within design performance conditions.
Equipment includes, but is not limited to; HVAC, generators, batteries, UPS systems, Rectifiers, and power distribution systems.
Open and track corrective tickets to resolve problems.

Manage the various equipment/technology platforms which include monitoring, alarms, proactive troubleshooting, provisioning and phone support for field technicians.
Manage, support, and troubleshoot for the highest availability of Company facility infrastructure.
Interface with vendors as a customer to resolve technical problems and gather technical data.

Assist in maintaining and updating facility software for scheduling, tracking work orders, equipment and preventative maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proven ability in maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC, free-air ventilation, DC and AC power systems, and various building structures designed for telecommunication equipment.

Ability to maintain, emergency backup & prime power generation, battery plants.

Knowledgeable with general electrical skills both high and low voltage.

Demonstrated knowledge of operating a Windows based PC and applications such as Word, Excel, Visio, Project, Teams, SharePoint is required.

Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and manuals and solve technical problems in a timely manner.

Excellent listening, oral and written skills to communicate ideas and concepts to coworkers and customers.

Ability to travel to rural Alaskan communities for up to several days duration.

Training duties as required.
Additional job requirements:
This is a mid-level position for the Facility Maintenance technician.
Must have a basic understanding of HVAC, generators, batteries, and AC & DC power systems including installation, modifications, and test procedures.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance/repair and testing of plant facilities in compliance with all applicable codes, regulations and company specifications.
Works under moderate supervision, must be able to work and complete tasks on time.
Minimum
Qualifications:

Minimum six years of experience in a facility operation and maintenance environment or equivalent experience required.
To include two years specialization in operating and maintaining HVAC, DC/AC power systems, generators, and structures designed for housing remote telecommunication electronics a plus.
Experience with telecommunication equipment preferred.

High School diploma or equivalent required.
An associate degree in electronics, or related technical degree in mechanical HVAC, electrical, or vocational/military training within the electronics and telecommunications field is highly preferred.
Certifications:
Industry specific certifications are highly valued and contributes to education/experience Because GCI is a Federal contractor subject to Executive Order 14042, GCI employees may be required in the future to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and routinely carry equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

Ability to travel by small airplane to rural Alaskan communities for several days duration.

Ability to travel and work outside in typical Alaskan cold weather (-20 to 30F).

Ability to work at a standard office desk using a PC.
Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions:
Subject to adverse weather and driving conditions when checking on fieldwork; areas may be obstructed by weather and/or debris or snow, requiring unscheduled clearing.
Most activities conducted in office environment under pleasant climatic conditions communicating with engineers, technicians, mid and high-level management personnel.
Interfacing with vendors at various locations as a customer to resolve technical problems and gather technical data.
Job may require up to 30% travel.
Rotational on-call is required.
May be required to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card including DOT required drug testing.
The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies.
Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to respond to the immediate emergency.
As such, you will be required to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.
Driving Requirements (if applicable):
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
